The Lovington Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 22 points or more this season. They took their matchup on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 62-14 win over Dexter. Given Lovington's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Dexter is ranked 113th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lovington's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Malaiya Castro, who scored 18 points along with four steals. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Elizabeth Buendia, who scored nine points along with 11 steals and seven assists.
Lovington is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Dexter, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.
Lovington's road trip will continue as they head out to face Post at 4:00 p.m. on December 21st. Dexter will be home for the holidays to greet Eunice at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
