Softball Recap: Gibbs Has No Trouble Against Union County

Gibbs got themselves on the board against Union County on Thursday, but Union County never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Patriots. Considering the Eagles have won 16 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Malyiah Smith, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Baker, who went 1-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Gibbs' win bumped their record up to 24-3. As for Union County, they dropped their record down to 10-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gibbs will challenge Morristown-Hamblen West at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Union County, they will square off against Claiborne at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
