The Bishop Hartley Hawks will challenge the Bexley Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
While Bishop Hartley's win against Canal Winchester wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hawks won by a run and slipped past the Indians 15-14. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hawks have posted since April 23, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Morgan Bailey, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-5. Nia Johnson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Bishop Hartley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .525. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Bexley won against Tree of Life Christian last Friday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. Everything went the Lions' way against Whitehall-Yearling as they made off with a 14-8 win. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won three in a row.
Helena Sidel was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elle Cochran, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Bexley's win bumped their record up to 8-14. As for Bishop Hartley, their victory bumped their record up to 15-5.
Bexley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bishop Hartley has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12 hits per game. It's a different story for Bexley, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given Bishop Hartley's sizable advantage in that area, the Lions will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bishop Hartley took their win against Bexley when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 17-8 score. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
