Owen Collins made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Michael Everett and Ian James did most of the damage at the plate: Everett got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while James went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs James has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Miles Everett, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Northeastern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Martin County owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Currituck County, sneaking past 2-0.
The result came thanks to Easton Warren's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 14 Ks. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Martin County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kamarion Larry, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Martin County's record now sits at 13-5. As for Northeastern, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 4-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Northeastern has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Martin County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Northeastern came up short against Martin County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 3-0. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
