The La Marque Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 68-23 defeat at the hands of Sweeny. La Marque has struggled against Sweeny recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Sweeny got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Shania Woodard out in front who scored 19 points along with seven steals. Woodard hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kay'ana Britton, who scored ten points along with eight steals.
La Marque bumped their record down to 4-14 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.0 points per game. As for Sweeny, their win bumped their record up to 17-8.
La Marque will look to defend their home court on Friday against Bay City at 6:30 p.m. As for Sweeny, they will head out on the road to face off against Brazosport at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
