Weslaco East is 3-0 against Pace since November of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Weslaco East Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Pace Vikings at 7:00 p.m. Weslaco East will be strutting in after a win while Pace will be coming in after a loss.
Even though Donna scored an imposing 37 points two weeks ago, Weslaco East still came out on top. Weslaco East narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Donna 40-37.
Alex Martinez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 229 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Martinez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Margarito Pompa also helped out as he racked up 126 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 48-14, which was the final score in Pace's tilt against Donna on Friday. Pace was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-7.
Despite the loss, Pace had strong showings from Adrian Sauceda, who gained 155 total yards and a touchdown, and Angel Galvan, who threw for 158 yards and two touchdowns. Sauceda hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games.
Weslaco East's win bumped their record up to 4-4. As for Pace, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.
Saturday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Weslaco East has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 255.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Pace struggles in that department as they've been averaging 192 per game. It's looking like Saturday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything went Weslaco East's way against Pace in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as Weslaco East made off with a 30-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Weslaco East since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
