Lakeside School had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past the Wilcox Academy Wildcats 17-1 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Chiefs, who have now won 30 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Carson Scott made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Conner Britton was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Brayden Vachon was another key player, earning one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases.
Lakeside School hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
Lakeside School has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 20 of their last 21 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 49-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Wilcox Academy, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Coming up, Lakeside School will face off against Coosa Valley Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Rebels will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. Wilcox Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
