The Durango Trailblazers will head out on the road to face off against the Cimarron-Memorial Spartans at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Durango is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games.
On Monday, Durango made easy work of Rancho and carried off a 9-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Trailblazers, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Aiden Farrell was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Rocco Germano was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Farrell wasn't the only one making solid contact: Durango kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Cimarron-Memorial got the win against Pinecrest Academy Cadence on Wednesday by a conclusive 17-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
Jonathan Santacruz looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cimarron-Memorial got a massive performance out of Gauge Elder, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Elder is becoming a predictor of the Spartans' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 0-13 when he doesn't). Alex Galindo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Durango pushed their record up to 16-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Cimarron-Memorial, their record is now 4-14.
Cimarron-Memorial's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Durango hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. It's a different story for Cimarron-Memorial, though, as they've only averaged .250. Will they be able to contain Durango's hitters?
Durango took their win against Cimarron-Memorial when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Trailblazers repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
