Conwell-Egan Catholic proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They never let Neumann-Goretti get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 9th.
Conwell-Egan Catholic's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Keegan Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Interboro, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They blew past Academy Park 15-0 on Thursday. Considering the Buccaneers have won eight contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Evan Thomas was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Thomas was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Mike McLaughlin was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Andrew Barbera was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Interboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Conwell-Egan Catholic's record is now 9-7. As for Interboro, their record now sits at 10-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Conwell-Egan Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Interboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
