It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Centennial Hawks challenge Hobbs Eagles at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. Centennial is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Centennial's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 16-0 margin over Del Norte. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hawks.

Aidan Renteria looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, Cole Alons and Mateo Marquez did most of the damage at the plate: Alons went 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI, while Marquez went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two triples gave Alons a new career-high. Chase Sanchez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Centennial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Del Norte only posted an OBP of .318.
Meanwhile, Hobbs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 11-5 to Mayfield.
Jayden Hernandez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Trystan Montez, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Hobbs' loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Centennial, their record is now 4-2.
Hobbs' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Centennial has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Hobbs, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Centennial's sizable advantage in that area, Hobbs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Centennial skirted past Hobbs 8-7 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Centennial since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
