Lancaster is 10-0 against Northumberland since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Lancaster Red Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Northumberland Indians at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lancaster scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Colonial Beach 91-27 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Lancaster has managed all season.
Lancaster can attribute much of their success to Davion Smith, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds, and Troy Henderson, who scored 40 points along with six steals and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Henderson has scored all season. Kevontrez Bunns was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, Northumberland entered their tilt with Rappahannock with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Northumberland simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Rappahannock 49-20 on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Northumberland has posted since December 4, 2023.
Northumberland found their leader in underclassman Tyreek Lundy, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Lundy hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of MJ Laws, who scored six points along with eight assists.
Lancaster pushed their record up to 11-2 with that victory, which was their 16th straight at home. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 34.63 points. As for Northumberland, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
Thursday's match will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Henderson and Lundy. Henderson has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 26.1 points, 1.6 steals, and 3.4 assists. For his part, Lundy has averaged 14.8 points, 5.2 steals, and 4.9 assists.
Everything came up roses for Lancaster against Northumberland in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 81-25 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lancaster since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
