Baseball Game Preview: Greenwich Country Day Tigers vs. Marianapolis Prep Golden Knights

The Greenwich Country Day Tigers will square off against the Marianapolis Prep Golden Knights at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Greenwich Country Day is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past King 6-5. Six seems to be a good number for the Tigers as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Landon Ristau looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Greenwich Country Day: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 6-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Walker Laitala, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Will Steel was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, while Marianapolis Prep put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Berwick Academy. The Golden Knights came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs, sneaking past 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Golden Knights have posted since May 20, 2024.

Marianapolis Prep also got a great performance from Nick Vanfleet as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 6.2 innings pitched.

At the plate, Marianapolis Prep saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Boris Valdez, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

The win (which was Greenwich Country Day's third in a row) raised their record to 8-10. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Marianapolis Prep, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-11.
