The Jay Mustangs have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They received a tough blow on Wednesday as they fell 76-62 to O'Connor. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Friday (59), Jay still had to take the loss.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Elijah Baldwin, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. Baldwin has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 12 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jarrius Jackson Jr, who scored 21 points.
Jay struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Leading O'Connor to victory were Braylen Mcmillen and Julian Barron. Mcmillen scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and three steals, while Barron scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Barron hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Luke Bledsoe was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Jay bumped their record down to 17-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for O'Connor, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-10.
Jay will be playing at home against Warren at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Warren will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 601st, while Jay is ranked 169th). As for O'Connor, they will head out on the road to challenge Harlan at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Harlan's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 13 contests.
