The Mauldin Mavericks had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They took down T.L. Hanna 53-37. Given Mauldin's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mauldin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zara Leamon led the charge by scoring 18 points along with five steals. Leamon is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 18 or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Delilah Soltys, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, T.L. Hanna still got an impressive performance from Tamerah Wynn, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. Wynn hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games.
Mauldin's victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for T.L. Hanna, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.
Coincidentally, Mauldin and the Yellow Jackets will both be playing the Patriots the next time they take the court. T.L. Hanna will host J.L. Mann at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Mauldin will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
