While losing is never fun, York Institute can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 191st, while Pope John Paul II is ranked sixth).
Pope John Paul II found their leader in underclassman Trey Pearson, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. The contest was Pearson's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jarron Talley, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
York Institute has fallen quite a ways from their 24-10 record last season and are now at 2-5. As for Pope John Paul II, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. York Institute will square off against White County at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Pope John Paul II, they will head out on the road to face off against Siegel at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
