The Dominguez Dons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight defeat. They took a 73-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of La Mirada. While losing is never fun, Dominguez can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 549th, while the Matadores are ranked 35th).
La Mirada found their leader in underclassman Gene Roebuck, who scored 33 points along with two steals. Roebuck continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Mj Smith was another key contributor, dropping a triple-double on ten points, ten rebounds, and 12 assists.
Dominguez has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season. As for La Mirada, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 20-7.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Downey the next time they take the court. Dominguez will head out to face the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Matadores will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
