On Tuesday, the Greenwood Eagles faced the Westside Rams in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Greenwood lost to Westside at home by a decisive 47-32 margin. It was the first time this season that Greenwood let down their fans at home.
Despite the loss, Greenwood had strong showings from Danielle Oliver, who scored 14 points along with seven steals, and Ty Johnson, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Oliver has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played.
Westside's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kiarra Gregory, who scored 12 points. Gregory continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Ahrianna Scott was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Greenwood's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-2. As for Westside, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.
Greenwood will head out on the road to take on Greenville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Greenville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Greenwood is ranked ninth). As for Westside, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Easley at 6:00 p.m.
