After a string of seven wins, the Basis Yeti's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell to St. Michael 43-37. Basis was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as St. Michael apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played last Saturday.
Basis' loss came despite strong showings from Rowdy McGourin and Jack Engelthaler. McGourin scored 17 points, while Engelthaler dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Engelthaler hasn't dropped below two steals for 14 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Quiroz, who scored two points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Basis' loss dropped their record down to 16-5. As for St. Michael, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-15.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Basis will square off against Rock Point at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Michael won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Many Farms at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Many Farms is ranked 311th, while St. Michael is ranked 322nd).
