On Friday, the Providence Academy Lions faced the Hopkins Royals in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Providence Academy took a 80-73 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hopkins. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Tuesday (70), Providence Academy still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Providence Academy saw an underclassman step up: Maddyn Greenway scored 32 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Greenway scored a full 43.8% of Providence Academy's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ari Peterson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Providence Academy and nudges their season record down to 8-2. As for Hopkins, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-2.
Providence Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Marshall at 2:45 p.m. on December 30th. Marshall has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 671 points over their last eight games. As for Hopkins, they will head out on the road to face off against Visitation at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
