The Aberdeen Bobcats will face off against the Tumwater Thunderbirds at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Aberdeen is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Olympic get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.
Maysinn Jones was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Hendrickson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Aberdeen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Olympic only posted a batting average of .167.
Meanwhile, Tumwater came tearing into Friday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Lions 6-0.
Not much got past Ella Ferguson, who gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks to keep Lynden off the board. Ferguson has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Megan Barrett, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Zoe Fields, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Tumwater pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Aberdeen, their record now sits at 21-4.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Aberdeen hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Tumwater struggles in that department as they've averaged .368. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Aberdeen beat Tumwater 6-1 when the teams last played on May 2nd. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
