Basketball Recap: Alexander Davis Key Part of a Team Effort in Pirates Win

Matanzas won the last time they faced Deltona and things went their way on Thursday too. The Matanzas Pirates walked away with a 63-54 win over the Deltona Wolves. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Matanzas' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alexander Davis, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards. Davis' evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathaniel Perry, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 19 points and six assists.

Despite the loss, Deltona still got an impressive performance from Xavier Cerrud, who went 8 of 20 on his way to 21 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That was a full 38.9% of Deltona's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Gage Gentry was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 10 points and eight rebounds.

Matanzas is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Deltona, they dropped their record down to 4-12 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

Matanzas wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 65-44 victory against Clay on the 13th. As for Deltona, they will take on Father Lopez at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Deltona is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season.
