Mingus (Cottonwood, Ariz.) extended its winning streak to five games with a 28-17 victory over
Coconino (Flagstaff, Ariz.) on Saturday.The Marauders were up 10-3 at the half after taking the lead on a field goal in the first quarter.
Mingus saw its 7-point halftime lead fall to six entering the fourth.
MHS's most effective player was
Dakota Hanks. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.
The Cottonwood school went into the matchup giving up only 9.2 points per game. The 17 points that the Panthers ended with were below their average of 20.4 coming into the game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Coconino took, 47-26.
The defeat comes as a step back for Coconino, which notched a 14-7 victory over Dysart in its previous outing.
In a non-conference game next week Coconino (4-2) takes on Tuba City, and Mingus (5-1) will go up against Payson in a IV Section III game.
