It was a good run, but the North Buncombe Black Hawks unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 74-43 loss at the hands of A.C. Reynolds. While losing is never fun, North Buncombe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while A.C. Reynolds is ranked sixth).
When it comes to explaining why North Buncombe lost, one person who can't be blamed is Edmonds Gracie. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kadence Penley, who scored six points.
A.C. Reynolds' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tait Harvey, who scored 21 points. That's the first time this season that Harvey scored 15 or more points. Anna Wilcox was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five steals.
North Buncombe's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-2. As for A.C. Reynolds, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Buncombe will face off against T.C. Roberson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. A.C. Reynolds' road trip will continue as they head out to face Enka at 6:30 p.m. on January 5th. Enka and A.C. Reynolds are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
