Basketball Game Preview: University Hawks vs. St. Albans Red Dragons

Two dominant guards in Hannah Stemple and Jaycee Elzy are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The University Hawks will challenge the St. Albans Red Dragons at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday. University has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

University is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Wheeling Park, posting a 65-35 victory.

University's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Stemple, who went 8-for-17 on her way to 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Stemple has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lexi Simpson, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards.

University was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They are 10-3 when they've passed the ball that well.

Meanwhile, St. Albans didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Oak Hill on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 51-46 win. The victory continues a trend for the Red Dragons in their matchups with the Red Devils: they've now won three in a row.

St. Albans' win came from a few key players University will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Elzy, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. That's the most boards she has posted since back in January. Triniti Austin-Russell was another key player, putting up 13 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

University is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. St. Albans' win bumped their record up to 16-6.
