After flying high against the Crystal City Hornets last Monday, the St. Paul Lutheran Giants came back down to earth. St. Paul Lutheran's rough 55-35 defeat to the Blue Jays on Tuesday might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, St. Paul Lutheran can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 450th, while the Blue Jays are ranked 222nd).
Despite the loss, St. Paul Lutheran still got an impressive performance from Mia Sherrill, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Sherrill is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 17 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Julie Lunsford, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
St. Paul Lutheran has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Jefferson, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Paul Lutheran will square off against the Fightin' Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Jefferson, they and the Indians will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Bismarck is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
