Softball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Marcellus' Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Marcellus came out on top against Homer on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Trojans. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Marcellus' win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Janzen Long, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another was Jordan O'Connor, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Marcellus is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Homer, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marcellus will take on Altmar-Parish-Williamstown at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rebels have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.75 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Homer, they will square off against Phoenix at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
