The Milwaukee Lutheran Red Knights pushed their score all the way to 58 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 71-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lake Country Lutheran. Milwaukee Lutheran was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lake Country Lutheran apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2015.
When it comes to explaining why Milwaukee Lutheran lost, one person who can't be blamed is Makhai Jewell. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Boyd, who scored seven points.
Sam Hans was his usual excellent self, scoring 29 points along with nine rebounds and three steals for Lake Country Lutheran. Hans also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Gavin Skrzypchak, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Milwaukee Lutheran's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7. As for Lake Country Lutheran, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.
Milwaukee Lutheran won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Cudahy at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Cudahy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Lake Country Lutheran, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Brookfield Academy at 2:00 p.m. Brookfield Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 matches -- so hopefully Lake Country Lutheran likes a good challenge.
