The Y Yuma had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They put the hurt on Sterling with a sharp 74-48 win. The result was nothing new for Y, who have now won three contests by 26 points or more so far this season.
Leading Y to victory were Jonathan Thomson and Brody Sheffield. Thomson scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and six assists, while Sheffield scored 27 points along with three steals. The match was Sheffield's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Edwin Munoz, who scored 15 points along with five steals.
Y pushed their record up to 5-1 with that win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Sterling, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Y will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Highland at 4:00 a.m. on January 6, 2024. Sterling will be home for the holidays to greet Brush at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brush comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
