The Monroe Central Golden Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Northeastern Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Monroe Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
While Monroe Central didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Alexandria-Monroe on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Golden Bears have posted against the Tigers since April 30, 2022.
Lane Wilson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Monroe Central let Caleb Luedike and Carter Duncan run wild. Luedike scored two runs while going 3-for-5, while Duncan scored two runs while going 4-for-5. What's more, Duncan posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Carson Siekmann also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Monroe Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alexandria-Monroe only posted an OBP of .160.
Meanwhile, Northeastern suffered their biggest loss since April 30, 2024 on Friday. They lost 14-4 to Shenandoah. The loss put an end to the Knights' undefeated start to the season.
Northeastern saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Jasinski, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Having lost for the first time this season, Northeastern fell to 2-1. As for Monroe Central, their record now sits at 4-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Monroe Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Northeastern struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
