The Nonnewaug Chiefs are taking a road trip to square off against the Thomaston Bears at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Nonnewaug will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
Nonnewaug's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 24-0 margin over Housatonic. Considering the Chiefs have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Scarlett Ivey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Gianna DeLorenzo and Elizabeth Boisits did most of the damage at the plate: DeLorenzo fired off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-3, while Boisits went 2-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. With that strong performance, DeLorenzo is now averaging an impressive 3.1 RBI per game. Lila Rogers also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Nonnewaug always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .689. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
Thomaston came out on top against Northwestern Regional on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Bears were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Highlanders.
Like Nonnewaug, Thomaston also got a great game from a two-way player: Madison Decker. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Decker was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Gabby Theriault was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Miranda Embelton was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Nonnewaug's record now sits at 10-1. As for Thomaston, their record is now 5-6.
Nonnewaug's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Chiefs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Thomaston, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Nonnewaug continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Nonnewaug's way against Thomaston when the teams last played back in April, as Nonnewaug made off with a 10-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chiefs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
