The Vista Ridge Wolves are taking a road trip to face off against the Pueblo West Cyclones at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Vista Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Vista Ridge easily dispatched Falcon on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Wolves fell just short of Pine Creek by a score of 7-5 on Wednesday.
Jaylani Jusino was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelynn Kalkman, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Pueblo West had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Cyclones, who have now won 14 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Acelyn Duran was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taci Ehrlich, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Pueblo West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 12-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Pueblo West's record is now 16-6. As for Vista Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 14-6.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Vista Ridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Pueblo West struggles in that department as they've averaged .405. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Vista Ridge suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Pueblo West in their previous matchup on Saturday. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
