Pell City has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Springville Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Thursday, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Pell City had to settle for a 41-38 defeat against Pinson Valley.
Despite the defeat, Pell City had strong showings from Caleb Groce, who gained 101 total yards and three touchdowns, and Markise Bedford, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
Springville fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They took their game on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 42-13 victory over St. Clair County. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Springville had established a 22 point advantage.
It was another big night for Mahlon Alverson, who rushed for 211 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown. Alverson hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for six straight games. Noel Cox was in the mix as well, providing Springville with two touchdowns.
Pinson Valley's victory bumped their season record to 4-5 while Pell City's defeat dropped theirs to 1-8.
Everything came up roses for Pell City against Springville in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 70-40 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pell City since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
