Basketball Recap: Hancock Skates Past Shanksville Stonycreek with Ease

Hancock had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 33-point drubbing they dealt Shanksville Stonycreek on Friday. The Hancock Panthers took their contest with ease, bagging a 73-40 victory over the Shanksville Stonycreek Vikings. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 287th in Maryland, while the Vikings are ranked 606th in Pennsylvania), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hancock's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hunter Kerns, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. Those nine boards gave Kerns a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tucker Welch, who posted 17 points and six rebounds.

Hancock smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Hancock's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Shanksville Stonycreek, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.
