Basketball Recap: Lukas Wrobel's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Drew over Gateway

Drew lost against Gateway two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Drew Dragons took a 69-50 bruising from the Gateway Gators. While losing is never fun, the Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 947th, while the Gators are ranked 369th).

Several Dragons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lukas Wrobel, who went 5 of 6 en route to 11 points along with five boards and three blocks. Those 11 points gave Wrobel a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nicholas Ordonez Reyes, who posted seven points in addition to five assists and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Drew and nudges their season record down to 7-13. As for Gateway, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 15-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Drew has already played their next game (against Oakland Military Institute), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Gateway will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against International at 7:00 p.m. Gateway knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully International likes a good challenge.
