Malvern extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region 7 this week by beating Robinson, 36-14. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Leopards.
Nashville was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Scrappers triumphed over Central Arkansas Christian 49-21.
Ashdown's dynamic duo of Jake Alexander and Ke'juan Pegue proved tough for Bauxite to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Alexander threw for 291 yards and four touchdowns and Pegue had 127 yards receiving. Dominique Sanders helped Ashdown's passing attack out by catching eight balls for 72 yards.
Jakaree Gaines was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 192 yards on 12 carries as Nashville defeated the Miners. Teammate LaMichael Pettway added to the ground attack by rushing for 80 yards.
Devaughn Sanders made the biggest impact on defense this week as Ashdown topped Bauxite. The 5-foot-11 junior pulled down one interception.
Thanks to the talents of Joel Hendry and Gaines the Scrappers have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Hendry leads the league in passing with 1532 yards, while Gaines has rushed for 479 yards this season. Arkansas Baptist's Dakota Newkirk leads the league in receiving yards with 586 on 33 catches.
Two of the top units in 4A Region 7 will face off this week when Nashville takes on the Eagles. The Scrappers' offense has racked up 213 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Arkansas Baptist has allowed only 188 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Matt Richardson's team takes on Malvern. As it stands, the Panthers are in third, while John Fogleman's team is in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Ashdown takes on the Leopards. The Panthers have allowed 84 points this season, while Malvern has given up 80. Ashdown allowed 27 points last week as it defeated Jon Watson's team.
The Panthers and the Miners played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Panthers eventually emerging with a 28-27 victory. Alexander ran for 10 yards in the win.
