The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a hard 47-31 fall against Cole. Nixon-Smiley has not had much luck with Cole recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Janaelyn White was Nixon-Smiley's leading scorer, having posted eight points. White also led the team in assists with three. She held things down on the boards with six rebounds.
Cole's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dakota Gaston led the charge by scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Gonzales, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Nixon-Smiley has not been sharp recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-22 record this season. As for Cole, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 23-8.
Nixon-Smiley will head out on the road to challenge Great Hearts Northern Oaks at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Great Hearts Northern Oaks is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Cole, they will be playing at home against Randolph at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Randolph will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 806th, while Cole is ranked 375th).
