Softball Recap: Gardner-South Wilmington Find Success

Gardner-South Wilmington was forced to take a big loss against they on Tuesday, they got the better of them on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Clifton Central Comets a 6-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Maddie Simms's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 18 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nina Siano, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Liv Siano, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Gardner-South Wilmington's win bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Clifton Central, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 12-8-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gardner-South Wilmington will venture away from home to square off against Reed-Custer at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Clifton Central, they will head out to face off against Beecher at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
