They were dealt a 35-3 loss at the hands of Corinth Holders. The Spartans were already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Meanwhile, Riverside-Durham gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 52-33 win over Northwood.
Jamarion Ross had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 350 yards while picking up 17.5 yards per carry. He was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 62 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Tre Belcher, who threw for 152 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes.
Everything came up roses for Sanderson against Riverside-Durham when the teams last played back in August of 2023 as the team secured a 52-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sanderson since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
