Baseball Recap: Lakewood Wins Going Away Against Union

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Rosewood, Lakewood was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Union Spartans with a sharp 25-0 win. Considering the Leopards have won five games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Rylan Godbold and Johnson Rouse were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Godbold tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Rouse pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Godbold scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Rouse scored three runs while going 1-for-4. That's the most runs Godbold has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Lakewood got a massive performance out of Reed Ammons, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those three runs gave Ammons a new career-high. Caleb Neal was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Lakewood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .675. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Lakewood's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Union, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakewood will welcome North Duplin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rebels will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Union, they will be playing at home against Rosewood at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
