Southern have had a week off and are no doubt ready to get back on the field. They will challenge Palmyra on the road at 7:00 PM on Friday. It might come down to the wire as the MaxPreps national rankings project a close contest.
Southern ran circles around Pawnee City two weeks ago, and the extra yardage (452 yards vs. 210 yards) paid off. Southern were fully in charge, breezing past Pawnee City 63-24. Senior Drake Adams, who passed for 206 yards and 4 touchdowns, was a major factor in Southern's success. In fact, with 15 tackles Adams was a force on both sides of the ball.
Meanwhile, Palmyra found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unpleasant 28-60 punch to the gut against Exeter-Milligan/Friend. Palmyra were in a tough position by the half, with the score sitting at 14-48.
Southern's win lifted them to 1-1 while Palmyra's loss dropped them down to 1-1. We'll see if Southern's success rolls on or if Palmyra are able to steal their positive momentum.
