Sedgwick County hasn't had much luck against Wray recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Cougars will square off against the Eagles at 11:00 a.m. Sedgwick County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.6 runs per game this season.
Sedgwick County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Akron, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cougars fell just short of the Rams by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday. The contest marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Tate Renquist put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 15 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Roman Kirk was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Wray hadn't done well against Merino recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Eagles blew past the Rams 11-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Like Sedgwick County, Wray also got a great game from a two-way player: Gage Waitman. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Waitman was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Grady Godsey was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Broderick Kite, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Wray always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Merino only posted an OBP of .261.
Wray's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. As for Sedgwick County, they suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 3-2.
Sedgwick County might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Wray when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
