MACAYLA RICE and BELLE WILLIAMS did most of the damage at the plate: RICE went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while WILLIAMS went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave RICE a new career-high. Emma Lamont was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs.
Pompano Beach always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Gibbons faced Western in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Chiefs fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 3-1. The Chiefs' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Lydia Berent spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cardinal Gibbons saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dakota Williams, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Pompano Beach pushed their record up to 14-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cardinal Gibbons, their loss dropped their record down to 20-4.
Both Pompano Beach and Cardinal Gibbons just can't seem to miss. The Golden Tornadoes have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Cardinal Gibbons struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pompano Beach might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Cardinal Gibbons when the teams last played last Monday. Can the Golden Tornadoes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
