The Pittsfield Saukees are taking a road trip to challenge the Pleasant Plains Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pittsfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Pittsfield made easy work of Rushville-Industry and carried off a 13-2 victory. The Saukees have beaten the Rockets the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rockets has come to flipping the script.
Presley Brown was a standout: she fired off two home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lila Simon, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.
Pittsfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. They are 9-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Pleasant Plains nor Lincoln made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Cardinals came out on top in a nail-biter against the Railsplitters, sneaking past 3-1. The win was nothing new for the Cardinals as they're now sitting on three straight.
Anna Nestler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Pleasant Plains saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddie Moore, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Pleasant Plains' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pittsfield, their record now sits at 14-7-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Pittsfield hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Pleasant Plains struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Pittsfield couldn't quite finish off Pleasant Plains in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Saukees avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
