Basketball Recap: Fountain Hills Skates Past Highland Prep West with Ease

A well-balanced attack led Fountain Hills over Highland Prep West in every quarter on their way to victory on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Fountain Hills Falcons blew the Highland Prep West HORNETS out of the water with a 72-28 final score. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the HORNETS are ranked 281st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ahren Lloyd was his usual excellent self, as he made all 8 shots he took racking up 19 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Lucas Grieco was another key player, going 5 of 8 on his way to 12 points.

Fountain Hills has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.4 points per game. As for Highland Prep West, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Fountain Hills will head out to take on Madison Highland Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Madison Highland Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Fountain Hills likes a good challenge. As for Highland Prep West, they will square off against St. John Paul II Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Highland Prep West is facing St. John Paul II Catholic at the right time seeing as St. John Paul II Catholic is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
