Marana is 2-8 against Tucson High Magnet School since February of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Badgers at 4:00 p.m. Marana is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Last Thursday, Marana came up short against Sunnyside and fell 13-9.
Kyla Layton was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cadence Beck, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Tucson High Magnet School had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Rangers. Considering the Badgers have won eight matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Alyssa Torres was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Tucson High Magnet School got a massive performance out of Jaliyah Grigsby, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Grigsby has posted since back in February of 2024. Alma Teillon was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Tucson High Magnet School kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Marana's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Tucson High Magnet School, their win bumped their record up to 13-7.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Marana has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .466. However, it's not like Tucson High Magnet School struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
