Red Oak Claims Class B Hardball Hardware
Dalton Fazekas hammered a walk-off grand slam to give Red Oak its second upset over a higher-ranked opponent in as many days, this time to claim the Class B state championship courtesy of the 10-run rule, 15-5 over Roff.
Red Oak pounded its way to a 10-0 lead after three innings before Roff showed some life in the top of the fourth. Roff scored five runs to make it a game before Red Oak rattled off five of its own in the fourth and fifth innings to claim its first-ever state title in baseball.
Junior basketball star Lane Adams homered for the second time in two days in the second inning to pace Red Oak, which finished the season with a 32-7 record. Jordan Booth had two doubles for the Eagles, while Justin Knight picked up the win from the mound for Red Oak.
Roff finished the season with a 31-7 record. In the fall state tournament, Roff ousted Red Oak in the state semifinals via the walk-off variety.
Fort Cobb-Broxton Rolls to Class A Crown
After finishing second four times in a row, Fort Cobb-Broxton wanted to trade its silver medals in for gold. Fort Cobb-Broxton completed the task with a 3-1 victory over Sterling to win the Class A state championship.
Londan Davis scattered five hits over in his complete game effort from the mound, allowing just one run. Davis threw 68 pitches in Friday’s 16-0 victory over Fort Towson in the Class A semifinals and threw the final game on no rest.
Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the third, James Bellamy kick started the Fort Cobb-Broxton rally with one of his two doubles of the contest. Davis pounded another double to score Bellamy and tie the score before Davis would cross the plate to take the lead for good on Levi Lewis’ fielder’s choice.
Fort Cobb-Broxton finished the season with a 34-4 record. Sterling finished 27-6 on the campaign.

- Edmond Memorial squeaked past Putnam City North 1-0 thanks to a Scott Armburst goal five minutes before intermission. Memorial remained unbeaten with a 14-0 record heading into the semifinals on Tuesday against Norman North.
- Norman North claimed city bragging rights over its arch-rival and advanced to the Class 6A semifinals for the sixth straight year with a 3-1 victory over Norman. Norman North moved to 14-2 on the season to set up and enticing encounter against Edmond Memorial. Norman North has not lost to a team from Oklahoma this season.

- Mustang’s Bailey Boulware scored at the death to give her club a 1-0 victory over Edmond Santa Fe. Boulware latched onto a pass from freshman Abby Hodges and stuck it in the back of the onion bag 25 seconds from time to give the Lady Broncos an enthralling victory.
- Edmond North did its part to ensure two of the semifinal berths would be from Edmond with a 2-1 victory over Broken Arrow. Megan Waltkins and Lizzie Merritt netted goals for North to give them six wins on the trot heading into the semifinals.

Boys Track and Field
Oklahoma City Douglass ran away with the boys team title in Class 4A, outlasting McGuinness by 26 points. Dasar Horton won four golds, claiming the 200 and 400 meters individually, and helping Douglass win the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Millwood won the boys team title in Class 3A for a second consecutive year as Michael Ervin had an impressive performance in the sprint events.
Hobart squeaked past Turpin by a half point to claim the boys’ team title in Class 2A. Hobart claimed the title by defeating Turpin in the all important 4x400 meter relay. Hobart took home the gold over Turpin by just .20 seconds.
Sharon-Mutual won the title in Class A.
Girls Track and Field
Oklahoma City Northeast freshman Takoya Simpkins stole the show at the Class 4A state track and field meet at Tulsa East Central, running away with four gold medals.
Simpkins told home the honors in the 100 meter (12.33 seconds), 200 meter (25.06), and helped Northeast claim gold in the 4x100 meter relay (49.27) and 4x200 meter relay (1:43.93).
Northeast came four points short in the team race, with Bishop McGuinness scored 76 points to claim the Class 4A team title. Vinita finished third, while Seminole came in fourth.
Vian won the Class 3A team title by six points over Plainview. Watonga won the Class 2A team title while Okeene won in Class A.
Class 6A and 5A will have their state meets next weekend. The athlete to watch is Midwest City’s Carissa Levington, who already owns the state record in the 100 and 200 meter dash. Edmond Santa Fe’s Constance Ezugha will attempt to add to her state record in the long jump set earlier this season with a leap of 20-feet, 6.5 inches.
