The Dakota Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the St. Mary's Prep Eaglets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Dakota got themselves on the board against Utica Ford, but Utica Ford never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Falcons 42-0 at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Dakota just coasted through the last quarter.
Dakota's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jadon Ford, who threw for 209 yards and a touchdown while completing 76.9% of his passes, and Skyler Simmons, who rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Dakota's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Tyler Torey and his three sacks.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for St. Mary's Prep at home against Brother Rice on Thursday as the squad secured a 41-7 victory. The result was nothing new for St. Mary's Prep, who have now won three contests by 21 points or more so far this season.
Dakota's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.5 points per game. As for St. Mary's Prep, their win on Thursday bumped their record up to 3-5.
Things could have been worse for Dakota, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 28-14 loss to St. Mary's Prep in their previous matchup back in August of 2019. Can Dakota avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
