Washington is 8-2 against Dunlap since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Washington sitting on three straight victories and Dunlap on four.
Washington's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Springfield with a sharp 13-0 win. Considering the Panthers have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Washington let Carter Prina and Hayden Hawksworth run wild. Prina went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Hawksworth went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Micah McCoy, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Washington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Springfield only posted an OBP of .062.
Meanwhile, Dunlap beat Galesburg 9-4 on Friday.
Jackson Newton was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxson Tresenriter, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Dunlap's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Washington, their victory bumped their record up to 16-7.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Washington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. However, it's not like Dunlap struggles in that department as they've averaged .334. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Washington was able to grind out a solid win over Dunlap when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 9-5. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
