The Tuscarawas Valley Trojans waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with three straight wins but they left with four. They had just enough and edged Canton South out 46-43. This was payback for Tuscarawas Valley, who suffered a 62-48 loss the last time these two teams met.
Tuscarawas Valley had a senior duo take command as John Leffler scored 24 points along with five rebounds and two steals and Cole Clements scored eight points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Leffler has scored at least a third of Tuscarawas Valley's points.
Tuscarawas Valley is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. As for Canton South, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-7.
Tuscarawas Valley will face off against Hiland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Canton South, Canton South and Springfield will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Springfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
