Burke County is 0-3 against Benedictine since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Burke County Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Benedictine Cadets at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Burke County is ranked 145th, while Benedictine is ranked 136th).
Burke County proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 22) but on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Jenkins County and snuck past 48-46. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Burke County has posted yet this season.
Burke County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Derrick Streetman, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Wimberly, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Benedictine scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by Islands at home to the tune of 79-51. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Benedictine has posted yet this season.
Caleb Jones was his usual excellent self, scoring 40 points along with six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. LaDon Bryant was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Burke County and bumps their season record up to 14-4. As for Benedictine, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Burke County might still be hurting after the 68-45 loss they got from Benedictine in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Burke County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
